Chefs With Compassion Distributed Over 90 000 Litres of Soup for #MandelaDay

In the spirit of Mandela Day, Chefs With Compassion distributed over 90 000 litres of soup to those in need across the country.

The non-profit organisation “Chef’s with Compassion”, for the third year in a row, has fed hundreds of thousands of empty bellies across the nation with their #67000litresofsoup challenge. The organisation challenges chefs across the country to cook and distribute as much soup as they can in 67 minutes in honour of Mandela Day.

This year’s target, much like the previous years, was greatly surpassed by approximately 23 670 litres, with the grand total coming in at 90 679 litres in total. This extraordinary amount of soup fed about 326 716 people across the nation in areas such as Hirsch’s Fourways and Out of Africa Children’s Home in Atlantis,

Preparation for the event began months prior, gathering a party of notable chefs across the industry including celebrity Chef Siba Mtongana of the Food Networks’ “Siba’s Table” and local rugby legend Tendai “The Beast” Mtawarira, who helped with the cooking and distribution of soup.

The day concluded with elation as the target was greatly surpassed with associates of the initiative such as Garden Route Food Pantry, and Joburg Food Market giving praise and thanks all over social media. Even organisations outside of the food industry took part and praised the initiative, such as Kingdomslots, who made ninety litres of chicken soup and three hundred rolls to feed three hundred flood victims at Ntuzuma F Hall.

The Chefs With Compassion organisation continues to grow year after year, now in their third year, they have fed millions of people in need across the country. With each year surpassing the last, we can only hope that they inspire more and more to put an end to the suffering caused by hunger in South Africa.
