Erinivale Estate Hotel & Spa : A Sensory Delight

Erinvale Estate Hotel & Spa – a historic Cape Dutch hotel settled in the heart of Helderberg has re-launched for the Summer with its recent addition, Magnolia Social Dining Lounge. Designed by acclaimed interior designer, Clinton Savage, it’s a restaurant with an original space and a bold identity.

The hotel is run by well-known Swiss-born hotelier and hospitality expert, Urs Kern who along with Clinton Savage, has worked in collaboration with owner, Christian Elleke to bring Elleke’s design vision to life – merging the old-world charm of the surroundings with the contemporary.

The 56-bedrooms hotel adjoins the famous Gary Player designed Erinvale course, and boasts the acclaimed Vergelegen, Lourensford and Morgenster wine estates as neighbours. Tranquil walkways through spectacular indigenous gardens in the courtyard and around the hotel promise a serene country escape.

Part of the Historic Hotels Worldwide stable, the 300-year old Estate dates back to the 1700s.  The L-shaped atmospheric thatched units stand where the stables once were, and the old barn made way for the impression Georgian-style block. Rooms have been designed a demure dark beige colour which lends a chameleon-like hue to the rooms, decorated in bespoke red, green and blue themes with custom made art, fittings and furniture complete the picture.

Erinvale boasts three restaurants, the newly launched Magnolia Social Dining Lounge, the upmarket Seventeen07, which offers fine dining and the Oak Terrace for al fresco dining under the age-old oak trees. 

Inspired by the Epicurus quote: “We should look for someone to eat and drink with before looking for something to eat and drink”, the idea of Magnolia Social Dining Lounge was to revolutionise dining by creating a comfortable and inviting space for diners to interact with others. Emerald green and burnt orange are the focal palettes of the interior and combined with the bespoke lighting and hexagonal brass fittings they work together resulting in an informal social dining club.

Chef Stefan Bekker believes that food should be an experience that is remembered – more than just a simple meal. Stefan and his team have carefully curated a small plate’s style menu with dishes such as dressed oysters, camembert fondues, beef fillet and prawn risotto –  a menu that combines modern food with the comfort of old-world flavours
